She breathed in deeply, trying to calm her nerves. It had been years since she'd been on a stage. She ran the lyrics through her head over and over again. I know this. Just calm down. Thoughts raced through her head as she tried to get rid of the butterflies flitting wildly in her stomach. She looked down at her dress, fiddling with every detail to make sure it was perfect. Mostly she was just trying to keep herself distracted and stop her hands from trembling. A warm hand caught hers at her shoulder.
"Relax, you'll do great!" She shrugged her shoulders in response.
"It's been so long."
"And you're a natural! Just do the best that I know you can do."
He kissed her softly on the lips and squeezed her side. She smiled sweetly in response. A stagehand came over and gave her the thumbs up. She nodded slowly and breathed in deeply. Just relax. You can do this. She took a small step toward the stage as the announcer introduced her. The sound of the audience clapping brought her back to the moment and she continued her steps on stage. The sound of the clapping grew louder as she stepped outside of the curtains. She straightened up and her confidence grew with every step. She grabbed the microphone from its stand and the nervousness was gone. This was where she belonged. She could definitely do this.
